Rethinking resilience

With RESILIA, an Innovation Hub is created that combines security research, civil protection, and societal education. In stationary, mobile, and digital resilience labs, crisis prevention, collaboration, and competence in action become tangibly experienced.

An innovation hub for more safety in everyday life and crises

RESILIA strengthens the ability of individuals, organizations, and institutions to better deal with uncertainty, disruptions, and crises. The project brings together science, application, and public education in realistic environments that inform, activate, and invite participation.

[ Stationary, mobile & digital ]

Three labs. One common goal.

The RESILIA InnoHub consists of three interconnected resilience labs: a stationary lab in Berlin, a mobile lab for use in communities and cities, and a digital lab for the virtual space. Together, they provide access to knowledge, training, and exchange — flexibly, practically, and scientifically guided.

Berlin

Experience In-Person

The lab in Berlin makes resilience education tangible, playful, and interactive.

Mobile

Apply on Site

The mobile lab transfers central formats to municipalities, organizations, and operational practice.

Digital

Deepen Digital

The digital lab enables flexible access, digital exercises, and location-independent learning.

For the public, organizations, and decision-makers

RESILIA targets anyone who needs to understand, convey, train resilience or act together in crises. The offers combine perspectives from civil society, civil protection, administration, research, and security organizations.

Citizens

For people who want to know how they can better prepare themselves, their families, and their environment for disruptions, emergencies, and crises.

Civil Protection and Operational Practice

For fire departments, aid organizations, authorities, and other actors who want to train collaboration, understanding of roles, and decision-making paths in realistic scenarios.

Municipalities, KRITIS and Decision-Makers

For administrations, operators of critical infrastructures, and political decision-makers who want to strategically strengthen resilience and test new solutions.

[ The impact of RESILIA ]

More orientation, more action competence, more collaboration

RESILIA makes crisis prevention tangible — for the public as well as for organizations, authorities, and operational practice. People learn to better categorize risks and recognize their own options for action. Civil protection actors train collaboration, communication, and decision-making paths in realistic scenarios.

Better understand risks

Complex situations become understandable and tangible — from local power outages to cross-sectoral crisis scenarios.

Practice action

Interactive formats, simulations, and game-based elements convey knowledge not only theoretically but through personal experience.

Strengthen collaboration

RESILIA promotes a common understanding of roles between the public, authorities, organizations, research, and other partners.

[ Partner network ]

Together for a resilient society

A strong network of science, firefighting, disaster research, artificial intelligence, and security research brings together diverse perspectives — for solutions that are understandable in everyday life and effective in crises.

[ Connect with RESILIA ]

Resilience starts with exchange

Whether research, practice, community, organization, or public: RESILIA invites you to share knowledge, test scenarios, and jointly develop new paths for crisis prevention.

[ Voices from the project ]

Perspectives on resilience

"Resilience means for a modern fire department, thinking beyond the operation. For me, RESILIA means exactly that: taking responsibility, actively researching security solutions, networking and sharing knowledge, and when it matters, working together effectively."

The resilience labs aim with educational offerings at promoting risk competence, understood as the ability of individuals and communities to understand risks in their heterogeneity and complexity, to realistically assess their own vulnerabilities and capacities, to make informed decisions about acceptable risks, and to independently contribute to the protection of the community.”

"Technology forms the basis for a modern society. Resilience must therefore also plan for dependencies and errors in technology."

RESILIA enables us to examine the human factor in connected laboratories in an interdisciplinary way and make it simulatable and tangible in crisis management.”

"Against the backdrop of the current threat situation, it will become increasingly important that in civil-military cooperation, the civilian support of the armed forces is more strongly considered and trained as a pillar of civil defense."

"Resilience arises where human behavior, technological systems, and robust decision-making processes are understood together. With RESILIA, we aim to develop, evaluate, and utilize Artificial Intelligence precisely at this interface to create adaptive and realistic training environments for complex crisis scenarios."
